What Is Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure using fine, sterilized needles to penetrate the skin. McCauley Dean Aesthetics uses a wide variety of MN tips for customized results, with or without radiofrequency.

What Conditions Can Microneedling Help?

Microneedling can benefit several skin concerns, with treatment options for the face and all over the body. Some common conditions we can help treat include:

How Does Microneedling Work?

Thin microneedles create punctures in the epidermis (top skin layer) and dermis (middle layer), penetrating up to 3 mm deep (less than ⅛ of an inch). Your skin naturally responds to these micro-injuries by sending healing agents, elastin and collagen, to repair the skin.

These healing agents maintain healthy cell structures, supporting the look and feel of your skin. Stimulating healing factors can improve skin firmness and hydration. Many patients notice plumper, refreshed skin the next day. Typically 4–6 sessions are recommended, and results can last 3–6 months after treatment.

What Does Microneedling Feel Like?

A topical anesthetic is applied before your session to improve comfort. You may experience a warm, scratchy sensation during your session as the microneedling pen moves between treatment areas. Bonier areas, such as your hairline or cheekbones, can be more sensitive than areas cushioned with thicker tissue, such as below your cheekbones.

Treatment length varies but usually takes 15–30 minutes. There’s no downtime, so you can resume your normal routine immediately after your session. You may experience redness and minor skin irritation that commonly fades within 2–3 days.

Combining Treatments for SmoothGlo

SmoothGlo is a combination treatment designed to achieve more dynamic results. It begins with an IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment followed by radiofrequency microneedling. The needles channel energy into the targeted treatment areas to enhance the effects of microneedling.

After Your Treatment

To maximize benefits and minimize discomfort, for at least 48–72 hours after treatment, patients should:

Avoid direct sunlight (apply sunscreen before going outdoors)
Avoid using harsh cleansers & exfoliants (only use lukewarm water & gentle cleansers)
Avoid using makeup (only use clean makeup brushes when necessary)
